Acne and Rosacea Treatment

How it works?

The LaserLight destroys the bacteria that infect acne. It also targets the inflammed overative sebaceous glands and causing them to shrink. The heating caused by the laser light also stimulates the production of collagen, which improves skin tone and aids in wound healing.

What it feels like?

Snapping sensation is felt. The tip of LaserLight head has a cooling device which renders the procedure virtually painless.

How often is the treatment session?

The treatment involves a series of treatments usually 2 to 4 weeks apart. An average of 5 to 8 sessions to obtain optimal results. Individual response will vary according to skin type, degree of tanning, and follow up care.

What to expect after the treatment?

There would be mild redness on the treated area right after the procedure which may last for few minutes to few hours. The swollen and inflammed acne gradually disappear. Redness and dark discolorations on the face on the skin would gradually fade. The skin tone and texture would also improve.

What are the side effects?

The short-term effects consist of pain, reddening, mild burning, swelling, fragile skin, temporary discoloration and temporary bruising of the skin. A crust or blistering may form, which may take 5 to 14 days to heal. Color changes, such as hyper-pigmentation (brown/red discoloration) or hypo-pigmentation (skin lightening), may occur following treatment. This side effect is more common in people with darker skin types. The discoloration may take several months to resolve, but in rare cases it can be permanent. A blue-purple bruise (purpura) may appear on the treated area. This can last a couple of weeks to months to completely resolve. Scarring and burns can occur but is uncommon.

Who are not eligible for the treatment?

Persons who are suffering from photo-aggravated and photo-related skin disorders and collagen vascular diseases such as Lupus erythematosus and Bullous pemphigoid are absolute contraindication of this procedure. Persons who had unprotected prolong sun exposure 3 weeks before should not undergo this procedure as it may cause, increase the risks or worsen the adverse side effects. The patient is advise to avoid unprotected prolong sunexposure for 3 weeks before and after the procedure and to use sunscreen on the treated area.
